I decided to base my symbolic self portrait off of two parts of my personality that I am always having to shift back and forth between. It represents my artistic side (because I like to do art) and the side of me that wants to excel intellectually in things such as school. I have a background of the sky which was chosen just for it's simplicity and openness that could fit well when your talking about not a physical thing that can be held. The colored side represents the artistic side of me. I chose interesting floral patterns to show creativity and design and the paintbrush make the whole "artist" idea clearer. The non colored side represents the intellectual side of things in which things such as school take place. It has less to do with colors and designs. A very subtle photo of books were added in to show what kind of things fit in the category on the black and white side. The artistic and the intellectual are separated to show the balance I have to keep between the two throughout my life, but it isn't usually a straight I'm artistic one moment and then the opposite the next. There are some places where they intertwine or "bleed together." The sides each category is on in the picture is symbolic as well. It is said that the right side of your brain holds the creativity; hence, the artistic side of the photo being on the right and also vice versa with the other side where the left brain is supposed to be the part of your brain that computes and processes information.
